Life should be about more than just survival

We have to set about in our life time to make the most of the time we have and that means life should be about more than survival, a lot more.

As human beings we will always naturally do those things that are necessary for our survival.

We breathe

We eat

We drink

There is a big difference between living a life of meaning and happiness and just one of survival. There is more to being alive than just having a heartbeat. Being alive, really alive, is something much more awesome and truly fulfilling.

Do you live a life of meaning?

Someday soon you are likely to ask yourself: What should I do next with my life? We all end up asking this question. We know that in our lifetime we need to leave our significant mark, and we should always believe that we can.

The last few years of my life I have been determined to becoming someone who contributes value to this world I live in, leaving my mark having made a difference to the life of others.

We live in difficult times.  So, many people do what they can to merely survive. They live constantly in survival mode living day-to-day to meet their needs.

This is no way to live. You must put yourself out there, day in, day out, and always be actively searching to move your life forward.

It is crucial you no longer put things off until tomorrow. You need to start chasing your dreams. Once I did my life changed so much for the better. Chasing those dreams like this is the last day, the last moment, you have to make your dreams come true.

I actively throw myself into achieving my dreams and so every night I lay my head down on my pillow with a smile on my face because I know I have taken another step closer to getting where I want to be.

As I grow older what I realized is survival isn’t nearly enough.  I read in one of my favourite books “Man’s Search for Meaning” written by Viktor Frankl where he talks about an existential vacuum, a condition that exists when one’s life is empty of meaning. When this vacuum is present, it is as if existence has a large hole in it that cannot be filled.

You have to fill this hole, with something that drives you with excitement. So really consider what do you dream about? Once you connect with what this is, go do it. Go make it happen. Go do it despite fear and doubt and the opinions of others. Go do it, because it makes you happy. Go do it, because it makes you come alive.

In some dark, hidden corner of ourselves, we stop short of believing we can have it really good – that we should have it really good – that we deserve to have it really good.. We’re conditioned to let survival be our priority. Paying the bills, keeping a roof over your head and food on the table these are simply your driving force.  Don’t make this your mistake any longer.

Ask yourself how great has life been to this point for you? How many mornings do you wake up feeling free, thrilled to be alive, excited by the day ahead? How many nights do you fall asleep feeling fulfilled, going over the events of the past day with satisfaction?  You only live once so do more than just survival go do something remarkable.
