Determine Your Priorities

I believe one of the most important things you can do for yourself, and your life is determine your priorities. Alas many of you don’t even think about what you spend your time doing. You get up, you go to work, you come home, you go to bed. You just go through the motions, rarely if ever thinking about what you do or even why you do it.

It’s important to take the time and consider what things you want to do or see or accomplish in your life. But it is easy to get caught up with daily activities and never really consider what you want to do or have in your life.

Does this apply to you? Begin to think about the activities you are doing in your standard day. Are you doing it because it is something you chose to do, or is it something that has just become habit? Does it help you get what you are wanting out of life or does it take away from it?

The possibility is you’ve found that your life is out of balance, you’re living virtually on auto-pilot and you’ve lost touch with your priorities, forgotten perhaps what’s important. You’re totally confused about what you should be focusing on in life.

It is not that difficult to determine your priorities and decide where to place the majority of your time, energy and focus.

Step One: Take time today, or sometime this week, to sit down and figure out what you want your priorities to be — at work and in life. Ask yourself :

  • What’s most important to you?
  • What goals are most important?
  • What do you want your life to look like?
  • Who is most important?

Reflect on these questions and  then write down your top priorities.

Step Two: When you determine your priorities, choose just 2-3 to really focus on. If you have a longer list, put the others on a “someday” list to focus on later.

Step Three:  Take time each morning to remind yourself of your priorities, and to put them into your schedule. Block off time each day for your top goals or priorities, so your life will actually reflect the priorities you set.

Put your priorities into forward motion and you can achieve anything

So take a moment to reflect on how you spend your time, and then think about your priorities.  Reflect on what the priorities you want to live with.

I want to give you my thought for  today. We only live once. You are special and you are here with a path to travel.   Life is really short and instead of being burdened by the heavy “shoulds” and “could have beens”, it’s now time to determine your priorities and live by them!

A tip my Dad gave me was at the end of every day to reflect for a few minutes on how you had made the world a better place during the day. And if you hadn’t, resolve to do better the next day.
