Have You Lost Your Way?

Stop! Look! Listen! Think! Are you where you want to be? Or have you lost your way?

It can be so easy to lose our way, falling off track, but it’s just as easy not to notice the signs. Yet it can have a very deep and lasting impact on your life: in areas such as your health, your relationships, your career, and your finances.

By just taking time out of our busy schedule, say once a month, to review and reflect, you can make sure you’re heading in the direction you want to go. Doing this, if you find you’ve taking a wrong turn, then you can quickly jump back on track.

Stephen Covey warns that you don’t want to climb the ladder of success only to find it is leaning against the wrong wall.  We get so caught up in our busy-ness that we never stop to ask ourselves if we’re actually moving in our desired direction.

It’s so easy to get caught up in climbing the ladder of success, getting the next promotion, the bigger office, the big pay rise.  But even when you’ve achieved it, you don’t enjoy it because you feel exhausted, irritable, depressed, and you’re having to drag yourself out of bed every morning for work.

You only get one shot at living, so shouldn’t you be doing what you really love instead?

When you’re doing what you really love, time just melts away. You are filled with energy, enthusiasm, your creative juices just flow out of you . You’re inspired to try new things and to take on new challenges. You can’t wait to get started each and every day because you’re doing what you love. You’re doing what you want to be doing. You have purpose, meaning, and boy do you have a direction, one that you want to be going in.  Life is exciting and life is meant to be lived like this.

But you might be lost right now, life has been difficult for you to navigate, and you don’t know which way to turn. But at least you’ve recognised you are where you are, and it’s not where you want to be.

So now you can do something about it!

Take time to figure out what’s important in your life.

Ask yourself:

What are your values?

What kind of dreams did you have as a child?

What’s truly important to you?

What is on your list of Things To Do Before I Die?

Where do you see yourself in six months, next year and years from now?

Are you working to live or living to work?

Are you energised, and satisfied by much of what you do?

It can be easy to lose sight of where we’re going. We can stop being victims and blaming others. We can begin to take control back over the direction of our lives. All it takes is a little bit of reflection time, ‘You’ time.

Taking time to think about your life and what you want to change is great. You have to devote some of this time to asking yourself where am I and where do I want to be.  Because when we see we’ve lost ourselves or we see we’re heading towards the wrong place, we can then do something about it.

We  can start by saying No to things we don’t want in our lives and start saying Yes to what we do want. You have control to change direction any time you want.
