10 Steps to Get You in Control Of Your Life

To reach your full potential as a human being, you need to be in control of your life.

This blog is all about personal development. Its purpose is to assist people who want to improve their lives, reach their full potential and strive towards emotional, spiritual, social and physical success and wellbeing. I know I have to help you my readers and followers to find the confidence to be in control of your life.

The mission I’m working towards through this blog is to provide a resource for anyone interested in self-development. Taking control of your life is an essential skill you need to acquire. Once you put your mind to achieving such a target, its within your grasp.

The development of yourself comes through what goes on inside of you. If you realize that everything starts within yourself, you will begin to see that it is possible to affect your thoughts, values, beliefs and actions. As a result, you can create virtually anything you like, and be in control of your life. Then you become the master of your own destiny.

Every one of you is more than capable of taking charge of your life. You have capability to surpass all of your previous achievements, and directing your future in any way you so desire.

Once you accept that your true potential is more than shows right now, and you decide now you want to take your forward,  you bring into your life all possibilities. Now you have to move things forward for yourself.

The steps you need to take to be in control of your life are as follows:

1. Take Responsibility

You have to take full responsibility for your life. By accepting responsibility for your life and for everything that happens to you, you develop a ‘sense of control’ that makes you more positive, more creative and more focused in every area of your life.  You stop living your life full of excuses about events and blaming others for your toils and troubles.

Finally you accept that everything that has happened and is happening in your life is because of your behaviour  and actions. This means, that you are completely responsible for all your successes and failures; your happiness; your unhappiness; and everything in your present and future.

Accepting that you are completely responsible for yourself, for every decision you make and every action you take, there is virtually nothing that you cannot do, have, and accomplish.

To be in control of your life you have to take responsibility for it.

2. Dare to Dream

A dream is a blueprint for your ultimate achievements!. If you don’t dream, you are living just for today, stuck in the here and now.  Too many people have lost control over their lives and instead stagger through aimlessly.

By keeping our dreams in mind, and our daily grind in perspective, we keep ourselves motivated through all our days of struggles and difficulties. It is our dreams that give us our  enthusiasm to keep moving forward.

When we dare to dream we feel inspired, driven, excited about our future. Your dreams are a large part of who you are and what makes you special. It not only gives meaning to our lives but helps you make choices and decisions in everything you do.

Dreams give people something to look forward to, they give people hope.  If you do not set your own goals you leave it for others to direct you.  Having a vision is most important in the path of your success in life, sticking to your dreams and the path they take you on gives you the ability to be in control of your life.

3.  Believe in yourself

If you want to take control of your life you have to start believing in yourself. This is one of the first steps to being in control of your life. .

Henry Ford’s said “If you think you can… or if you think you can’t… you’re right!”

Believing in yourself is all about having that self confidence that drives you on because inside of your mind you know you can do it. . You know that you are capable of achieving whatever you set your mind to, and you will get your body to follow. You will truly believe without a doubt that you can succeed. Nothing is impossible for you. . No matter what obstacles stand in your way, what difficulties you already face you just know you will achieve your dreams.

So start believing in yourself and see those wonderful opportunities and possibilities waiting for you.

4.  Take Action

To be in control of your life you have to make decisions and take actions to back them up and make them happen.

The power to transform your dreams into reality resides within you.  Each of us has unlimited potential but to bring your dreams into reality you have to take action, massive action; and continue doing it each day, moving closer and closer to the finish line.

By taking realistic, massive action steps day by day towards your goals and dreams, you move your life forward, in the direction you want, as its you in control of your life.

You can talk as much as you want, sit down and make plan after plan, but until you start doing things towards the attainment of your goals, you’re going to get nowhere. Take massive action, get yourself busy doing, not thinking.

5.  Attitude is Everything

Attitude can be defined as “a mental filter through which we process our thoughts and views of the world.”  One of the most important steps you can take toward achieving your potential in life is to get your attitude right. When you do you really will be able to see the possibilities life has to offer. You will no longer wear those blinkers that only see doom and gloom in everything around you.

Having the right attitude is one of the basics that success requires. In fact your basic happiness is so much down to your attitude. The combination of our personal determination and a positive attitude about ourselves gives us an inner strength and a firm resolve that influences all the other areas of our existence.

So one of the most important steps you can take toward achieving your greatest potential in life is to learn to monitor your attitude and its impact on your work performance, relationships and basically everything you do.

6.  Develop Productive Habits

Much of what we achieve in life is the sum of our good habits and our bad habits. Did you know 95% of your thoughts, beliefs and actions are a result of habit? Some habits are very positive and developing them will greatly benefit you.

The results in your life – whether good or bad – are largely a result of habits, consciously or unconsciously acquired. Your habits will determine whether you reach your goals. This is because habits are actions that are repeated regularly.  So it’s best you adopt some brilliant, empowering habits that can help you make your life the way you want it to be.

When you are in control of your life your good habits will shine out, because they simply account for a lot of your success.

I believe that waking up early, being organised, working to a plan day by day, doing a physical workout every day, eating healthily are all habits that show you’re in control of your life.

When you’re running around like a madmen, never able to get on top of your work schedule, and smoke and drink way too much, you can never claim to be in control of your life, can you?

7.  Deal with your Emotions

We make our decisions based on our emotions, and then justify those decisions with reason and logic.  In order for us to manage our emotions effectively, we need to better understand the power of emotions so that we can be in control of them, rather than have them being in control of us.

Too often you allow your mind to wander into negative, stressful  thoughts, which drag you down into the pit of your emotions.  They leave you low, lacking in the will to go on. You just let yourself do this, doing nothing to stop yourself, or putting a check on our emotional thoughts.  And when you’re down, you stay down letting other and events control everything you do.

To be in control of our life we have to deal with our emotions more importantly than anything, we have to learn to take charge of our emotions, and manage our thoughts staying positive, upbeat and inspired by both our life and our prospects. There’s always hope, and when you allow this to shine through you give yourself the best chance to move things forward. Because now you in control of your life, not your negative thoughts.

8.  Balance Your Life

Are you feeling run down, needing more energy in your life, feeling negative about everything that’s happening to you.  To take control of .your life, you need to get things into balance.  When your life is in balance you begin to feel more in control. But when things are unbalanced that’s when we feel like things just aren’t working out, often we feel unhinged and often desperate.

It’s so easy for our lives to become out of balance, our stress level to spiral out of control, yet with a clear focus and persistence you can create for yourself a balanced life.

Living a confident, empowered, and balanced life is all about having a sense of control. Life-balance is the foundation for success.  Having a balance between all life areas allows us to live effectively and have more fulfillment.  When you keep a balance between the areas of your financial, relationships, career, and others you are happy, and in total control of your life.

9. Change or Be Changed

We are living in a fast-changing world. Whether we like it or not, we do not have a lot of control over the external changes in our world. What we do have control over, however, is how we react to those external changes. You must take advantage of things that are changing around you, rather than change letting change take advantage of you!

If you’re headed down a road that’s not taking you to where you want to go, you’ve got to change your direction or your approach, right? In the words of the famous motivational speaker Jim Rohn: “If you want your next five years to be a whole lot better than your last five years, you’ve got to make some changes in your life.”

Why not, stop for a moment and ask yourself, “what can I change about me, that will improve my life?” When you ask yourself this question you  will accelerate your success in achieving your dreams, taking control of your life.

Everything can change. Nothing is set in stone. Wherever you are today you can make dramatic changes and be in a totally different place in double quick time. If that’s what you want. After all it’s you in control of your life.

10 Live your Passion

What exactly is your passion? Your passion is what makes you want to get up each morning and face your day. It can be anything that brings you almost indescribable joy, personal satisfaction, and fulfillment.

Living your passion is the best way to live. Really in my opinion it’s the only true way to live. When you do this your life becomes fun and delightful. Living your passion is an important key to your personal development and once mastered can have dramatic impact on your life.

Confucius said, “Man who loves what he does, never does a day’s work in his life.” Meaningful activity in which you are fully engaged and love to do, is not work—it’s living.

Although most of us realize what we control and do not control, we live as though we do not really know, and in some cases we spend years focusing on things we cannot control. Darren L. Johnson

This passion catapults you out of bed with excitement, ready to start your day.

Every point you mentioned takes a life time to practice. Just #10 itself, 90% of the population are not living it. Most are not living their passion. And we can only truly enjoy life when we are living and acting in our passion!
