Stop Killing Your Dream

Everybody has a dream at one time. A burning desire to do, be or have something. They think about it all the time, but do nothing about it.

Does this mean the world is full of dreamers but not doers?

Everyone has the potential to fulfil their dreams so why do so many people do nothing about them. A major reason seems to be the possibility that “you can’t” succeed rather than “you can” stops people from even trying. Fear is an overwhelming obstacle that we allow to build a huge barrier in our minds.

For this reason it seems so many people are putting off their dreams forever just so as to avoid the possible embarrassment of failure, and even worse stopping themselves completely from setting out on the path to making their dreams a reality so to avoid the ridicule they fear it may bring them.

No one said that it was easy to make your dreams come true, but if you can first believe that they are possible you are one step closer to having them become a reality.

I’m a firm believer in dreams. You have to believe you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind too. You can be whatever you want to be. You need to believe in the possibilities. It’s what can make life so magical.

Here am I living a life where my passions are driving me forward, and my wildest dreams are becoming a reality. But yesterday I met someone who reminded me that a big part of my journey involves me inspiring others to believe in their own dreams.

No matter our age, we all have inherent dreams and desires we would like to see come forth in our lives and it is essential we make every effort to bring them to fulfilment. . Our dreams are what we are put on earth to do.

I spent time yesterday with someone very talented who believed it was easier to just give in and give up on her dreams. She said that she needed to live in reality, and that meant foregoing her dreams. She wanted to be a singer. It was all she had ever dreamed of since leaving nappies. Her whole life she wanted nothing more than to sing. She would constantly visualise herself singing on stage, seeing the audience loving her every word. You couldn’t count the number of times she’d lock herself away in her bedroom and sing her heart out.

But would she tell a sole? No she wouldn’t. She wouldn’t want to face their ridicule, hear their discouraging words. Instead she had to convince herself that it was a foolish notion, an impossible dream, one that she best forget about. She kept reminding herself that it would be a fruitless endeavour if she ever did try to make this dream a reality. She would conform and ensure nobody could criticise her voice by making sure nobody heard it. Yet I know how beautiful it is.

Rather than achieving her dream she set out to receive the acceptance and approval of her peers. To live up to the standards she felt feel society had set for her, which meant burying her dreams. But to forego our dreams comes with a price.

Life becomes a daily grind one that is both difficult and stressful. You become tired and worn out with all areas of your life and your energy just drains away. You believe that this is how life is meant to be. It breaks my heart when I find someone young with their whole life in front of them taking an approach that leads to sadness rather than fulfilment.

Well I didn’t want such an incredible talent to be hidden from the world so I told her that achievers are believers: they believe in themselves and in their great dreams. Anything that you can dream can be totally achievable you just have to take action to achieve those dreams. Start by setting a goal towards the dream and keep moving! Life is a blank canvas and you are the painter.

We’re in so much control of the end result, we just don’t realize it. We each have so much brilliance within us; it often just doesn’t shine through. It’s time to remove your hurt, resistance and fear to become who you’re meant to be, and let your talents whatever they may be, shine.

Here is what you have to do to stop killing your dreams.

1. Start Believing

Believe in yourself and others will be forced to believe in you. Believing in yourself is all about being sure that you are going to do whatever you want and knowing you will succeed, no matter what.

“If you can believe, all things are possible to those who believe.” Mark 9:23

2. Create A Vivid Vision For Your Future

Build a vision for the future, captivating your entire heart, spirit and soul. Allow yourself to see a vision, a dream of what your life could one day stand for.

“Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.” –Jonathan Swift

3. Overcome Fear

Do not be afraid of failure. Take small steps and build your confidence up to take bigger steps. Stop the negative thinking and build positive pictures in your mind, of what your success will be like. Never be afraid of going for your dream, just know that you will regret never trying far more.

4. Develop a Success Consciousness

Develop a ‘refuse to lose’ attitude. A positive pattern of thinking, a great attitude to have, which will propel you down the road to success. This attitude can make the difference between success and failure during difficult or challenging times.

5. Never Give Up Mentality

Persistence and determination will pull you through and past any obstacle. Dedicate your life to fulfilling your dream. Be unstoppable. Do not be frightened of challenges. Focus on how to get past your challenges. Never throw in the towel. Your dreams are to precious.

6. Stop giving other people’s opinion power:

Don’t let the opinions of others influence you, and uinder no circumstances let their words hurt you. These are your dreams, and those that attack them are only jealous that you had the heart to go for yours where they threw theirs away. Believe in yourself that’s all that counts.

So get going and discover the awesome power of your dreams, and fulfil your destiny. Stop killing your dreams as though they don’t matter because you know they would be everything to you.
