Be True to Yourself – Life Coaching Principle

With all of the hustle and bustle of life, how often do you find yourself longing to be somebody else, living a totally different life? If your life has come to feel like an endless barrage of turmoil every single day, maybe it’s time to look at yourself for some solutions.

What is it that would make you happy? Are you happy with yourself? Take a moment or two to contemplate this before you move on with the rest of the article…

“The world may judge you negatively for your deeds, but being true to yourself is better than being a liar just to impress everyone”.

It is so important that you see yourself as you truly are, clearly and objectively, that you act in ways consistent with your beliefs, and interact honestly and truthfully with others, or as put by a far better writer than me William Shakespeare said ‘to thine own self be true’.

To be true to yourself means to act in accordance with who you are and what you believe. If you know and love yourself you will find it effortless to be true to yourself. Just as you cannot love anyone else until you love yourself, you cannot be true to anyone else until you are true to yourself.

Being true to yourself is one of the best things you can do for your life. You know within yourself what is best for you. You can completely trust yourself. You don’t need to be led by others, you have a great mind, decide for yourself to enjoy the comfort of you. Imagine your life, being at peace with yourself because you made the choice to change. You can make this happen, it will take time and effort. Once you discover being this you will
feel like you have never felt before. It will feel as if you have transformed your life. Don’t pretend to be who you are not, for the sake of others. Be true to yourself and let them learn to love you who you are for, and to respect you truly.

Imagine a time when you’ve felt your best. When you’ve radiated with energy. When you’ve really felt on top of the world. You were being the real you.

Be who you are!  Do not do things for the sake of gaining acceptance. Don’t pretend to be somebody you’re not. When you do things that are not genuine or a reflection of the real you, you will not be happy with yourself and life will be a mess. How often do you just sacrifice yourself and your beliefs, saying ‘anything for a quiet life’. If you don’t respect what’s important for you in long term, you’re putting yourself under a risk of becoming a slave to other situations and people who will manipulate you.

When you respect yourself, others will respect you. They will sense that you are strong and capable of standing up for yourself and your beliefs, seeing your individuality and uniqueness shining through.

Courage is a prerequisite of being true to yourself. Be true to the very best that is in you and live your life consistent with your highest values and aspirations. Those who are most successful in life have
dared to be themselves.

Remember back to the times when you could speak or act freely, without any fears regarding the impact your behaviour or words may have. Do you remember how good you felt back then? And can you spot what exactly have changed since then? Why can you not be yourself? Why can’t you any longer speak honestly?

Your true self is where your deepest thoughts live. It is what you ultimately think of yourself, how you treat yourself and what you fear others might see inside you. It is your most native and real personality. It’s where the best of you lies, your true being, don’t hide that you anymore, the world will be a better place with the genuine you.

When we know what our values are and stay attuned to our inner voice, our behaviour will be principled and our actions will be consistent with our most deeply held convictions.

Here are some things to do to be true to yourself.

  • Be who you are, be your genuine self.
  • Love who you are – Start loving yourself more and more each and every day.
  • Follow your own value system and common sense.
  • Trust yourself.
  • Listen to the advice of others, but make up your own mind.
  • Your intuition knows what is best for you.
  • Recognize, appreciate, and develop your unique talents.
  • Spend some time with yourself understanding yourself.
  • Stand up for what you believe in and you will gain respect.
  • Know that being ‘different’ is a gift.
  • Understand that you are enriching others by being yourself.
  • If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
  • Understand yourself.
  • Be compassionate with yourself .
  • Love yourself unconditionally.
  • Never under estimate how much you can change your life.

Being true to yourself isn’t an easy thing to do. An important part of this journey of life is to learn how to be true to yourself.

So what can you do to be true to yourself?

“Every time you don’t follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness.” Shakti Gawain
