Overcoming Mental Fatigue

So many people I speak to are seemingly plagued by feeling tired all the time which is why I wanted to share some advice on overcoming mental fatigue. It is now one of the most common problems affecting people in society today.

In a way it seems to be affecting more and more people mentally. I am constantly working with people struggling with mental fatigue. Symptoms of mental fatigue include a sense of lethargy and an inability to concentrate. It can have serious effects on your cognitive functioning; reducing your alertness, diminishing your performance and problem solving, as well as decreasing your situation awareness. The most common symptoms include:

  • An inability to concentrate
  • Memory Lapses
  • Forgetting Words especially names
  • Trouble with learning
  • Reasoning and judgment problems

Mental strain is a normal consequence of the coping process when faced with mental long-term overload or a high intensity of job demands results in mental fatigue. Its basically when your mind has been pushed to a point where it can’t cope with the demands you’re placing on it.

One common factor I have found is that when people are working their back sides off in jobs they hate in order to pay bills, struggling to just survive, the pressures upon them are just untenable. It doesn’t take much extra pressure to get them to the point of total overload where they feel crushed by mental fatigue.

I look at their situation and ask where is their stimulation? What could they possibly find exciting about what they do or where it is taking them. After all they don’t like their job, yet they probably see themselves stuck in the same routine for the rest of their working lives. Their dreams, if they had ever had any, have long been crushed under the pressures of modern day survival, and they have no long term goals to drive them.

They just feel empty inside. They see their life as being insignificant, and for themselves it’s just a struggle, who has been and always will be. I imagine nothing could be more tiring, exhausting, soul destroying than this.

What would it take for them to find a way to recharge their mental batteries?

The answer is simple, they have to find a way to enjoy and actually live life again. When you see your life as boring, tiresome, going nowhere, meaning nothing, this is of course is going to drain you. Nothing there is going to charge you with energy, empower you to get up ready to take on the day, excited to do what you have to do.

But how can you turn this around?

The first thing you have to do is decide that life is too short to waste and you do truly want to start living it right now. That you want to make the most of every second, minute, and hour you have. You totally believe that you deserve nothing less.

Now you have to rediscover what’s important. Take an hour and make a list of everything that’s important to you. Add to it everything that you want to do in life.

Rediscover who you are and what you really want and start building a life of joy, passion and fulfilment.

I challenge you to live a positive life—giving life that creates the kind of legacy that you want to be remembered for. When you are trying to get ahead in life, remember that delay is not denial. When you fall, get back up and keep going. When facing obstacles, realize that you have it within you to succeed, just never give up. .
