If Diets Don’t Work, What’s The Solution To Losing And Then Managing Your Weight?

In a recent blog post I had a mini-rant as to why diets don’t work and today I’m going to give you the framework to implement healthy habits into your daily routine. I’m talking about changes which you will use for the rest of your life, not just while you try to lose a few pounds.

So instead of dieting when you need to lose a few pounds, what should you do instead? Well, I suggest you implement these lifestyle habits into your daily life and you will see dramatic improvements in your weight, energy levels and concentration along with a whole other host of amazing health benefits. Here goes…

Eat regularly

The first habit to get into is to eat regularly. I recommend to eat every two to three hours. You should have 3 main meals and 2 snacks. For more information on the eating schedule I recommend check out this article: How Many Meals A Day Should You Eat – And How Big Should Each Meal Be?

Limit your fat intake

Limit your fat intake to 5-10 total grams per meal. Try to keep fats as healthy as possible and remove all foods containing trans fats from your diet. For more information on our guide to fat check out this article: Fighting The Fat

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day

Try and drink water over other beverages throughout the day. Reduce the amount of tea, coffee, soda drinks, energy drinks with just plain old water. Your body will thank you for it and you will see a lot of health benefits as a result. Flavoured water is allowed if you find plain water “boring”.

Remove sugary / energy drinks from your diet

Sugary drinks and energy drinks have no place in your diet. They don’t provide any health benefits whatsoever and even do more damage to your body over the long run. As already suggested, remove these drinks with water.

Limit your alcohol intake

Ideally removing all alcohol from your diet is the best thing you can do. If you do enjoy a drink every now and then, try and stick to 1-2 units a day. You can increase this to 3-4 units on your 2 weekend days, whichever they may be for you.

Exercise

Exercise is key to having and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Start small at first. Walking counts as exercise! Work your way up to at least 50 minutes a day and you will be where you need to be when it comes to exercise. The extra amount of energy you will have throughout the day just from doing 50 minutes of exercise will make it feel like you get an extra few hours added to your day. Its great!

Implement these changes into your life and they will make a dramatic change to your overall health and well-being. In another article I’m going to show you how you can implement these changes into your daily routine in a fun way.
