The Importance of Motivation in Weight Loss

The difficulty in losing weight is often not a lack of understanding what you need to do but more frequently a lack of motivation. We all know that eating right and exercise are key to losing weight but of equal importance is having a strong enough motivation to get you to stick with doing the necessary things.

There has been a huge increase in obesity undoubtedly rooted in how increasingly easy it has come for individuals to lead predominantly sedentary lives and eat high-energy dense foods in excess. But most people do eventually get to the point where they say enough is enough, and weight loss becomes a major issue for them.

Yet a very common problem is weight loss proves to be a very challenging and frustrating venture, and the temptation to quit and accept a life time of being overweight often seems to be the route taken. We try so hard, attempting every diet we can find, attain descent results but some where down the line we fall of the wagon and before we know it any losses have been regained.

I get emails from people sharing their frustrations and challenges with weight loss. The number one problem mentioned is lacking the motivation to stay with their weight loss program. They report that they do well for a while and lose some weight, but always something happens and they simply lose all motivation and go back to eating the ways they know they shouldn’t.

I have one main ethos in life, its probably pretty evidenced by my writing both here and at larry-lewis.com and that’s to ‘never give up’ So no matter how difficult losing weight may seem, succeeding in your weight loss goals is possible, and achievable. All you need to do is to keep going on never giving up. In other words, don’t let yourself quit. Yes you, because you are the one in control of your life. To succeed in the weight loss journey, like in most journeys in life requires sufficient and powerful motivation.

It is this motivation that will help you resist mouth watering temptations, stick to your workout schedule, and continue working towards losing weight.

As a Personal Development Coach the first thing I’ll tell you is a MUST do in order to create the right motivation is to be absolutely clear on ‘what is your goal?’

You need to be absolutely crystal clear on an inspiring goal, within a realistic timeframe, that you believe you can achieve. A crystal clear goal is always the starting point. Know where you are. Know where you want to get to.

But the next step is the most important. It provides the power behind this battle for you, the real reason you’re prepared to go through the pain, and that is your WHY.

To create the right motivation you need to know your why. Why” is the foundation of your motivation. Why do you really want to lose weight”? Your reasons are the fuel that will keep you going.

Without answering that one question you are doomed. So find the answer and you will I assure you create the necessary powerful motivation.

WHAT’S YOUR REASON TO LOSE WEIGHT?

It’s important to be very clear on the short term & long term positive advantages of losing weight, but alternatively the negative consequences of not making the change.

There’s so much more to the journey including learning how to handle the stress and challenges of daily life so you don’t comfort eat, of course you need to understand the requirements of healthy eating and you need to find a way to exercise for the necessary amount of time.

Also of importance is getting the support of others to help you keep on track each day and motivation and accountability each day.

So today, in response to some of our followers here is my offer.
