7 Steps to Make the Most of Every Day

It is crucial for you to make the most of every day, never allowing yourself to waste another second. Our lives are made up of single days, 24 hours long, one day after another. Morning is greeted by the sun rising and ends with the sun setting. The life you get to live will very much depend on how you choose to spend each day.

You have around 16 hours from the time you wake up in the morning until the time you go to bed at night to make the most out of your day. Would you say you’ve been doing a good job of it?

Unfortunately, for a long time after my visual impairment I embraced little intentionally in my days. I survived each new day, but made little effort to make the most of it. Instead, they simply just came and went… and many were wasted.

What I learnt from this period is that there are a few things you need to do which will make a huge difference to the overall ‘success’ of your day. Making the most of your day will ensure you are making more of your life.

The first step to making the most out of life is deciding what you hope to accomplish. Maybe you want to follow your passions and build a business that will make a difference to the world. Maybe you’re seeking your soul mate and building that wonderful relationship that will bring you joy. Perhaps you want to become fit and healthy so you can be a positive example that your children can look up to. Whatever it is you seek, make happiness, your happiness, the number one priority.

Every day you go to bed, your life is one day shorter, so make the most of every day. Jimmy Chin

We all have had the feeling of how quickly time seems to pass us by. Sometimes the clock seems to fly through the hours before we get very much done at all. 60 minutes seem to just evaporate. All 3,600 seconds evaporating like they didn’t even exist. Yet even excluding the time you have to spend for work, jobs around the house and various other responsibilities, you’d still have enough time to do everything you want to do. As long as you are determined no longer to waste a second. Remember it’s your choice.

My attitude is now to ensure I make the most of everyday seeing each 24 hour period as an important gift and to ensure I do indeed make the most of them I give myself key priorities for the day.

I won’t waste the day away in bed

Early mornings are quiet, peaceful, productive, energizing and my favorite part of the day. Right now as I’m typing this into my phone the sun has made its appearance and all I can hear is the birds tweeting away. I feel at one in nature and this is something I denied of myself for so long. Why choose to feel sorry for myself lying in bed when I can be out in the mornings enjoying nature. Such a transformational difference to me please don’t deny yourself these magical moments that cost nothing but give you such peace and harmony.

Feed yourself for health and energy

The food we put into our bodies becomes the fuel on which it runs. We are wise to make sure it is the right kind of fuel at every meal. Just be sure to include some protein in your breakfast, your mind will be sharper and clearer because of it. It’s so important to get our diet right. When we do it helps us with energy, and keeping all our internal systems operating well. You have to find time to look after yourself.

Get that body moving

We must always make the time to exercise. When we do we feel the benefits in so many ways. Sure, you know exercise is good for you. It keeps your weight in check, makes you stronger, and keeps you feeling youthful and staying active into old age, but you rarely make it a priority. Try to build up to at least 30 minutes of activity that makes you breathe hard on most or all days of the week. Every day is best.

Get one big thing achieved

Statistics show that people are only capable of four hours of intense, concentrated work per day. So choose the one thing that is most important to you, focus on it, and make this your One Big Thing for the day. You are using your valuable energy on the day’s most important project. Your best work happens when you spend hours in flow, intensely focused on a single task.

Keep control over your thoughts

How easy we find it to feel sorry for ourselves. Worse still how often do we just allow our minds to run away with negative thoughts. Often these will get you so down and totally ruin your day. You can alternatively take control over your thoughts, words and deeds. What you say, how you think, and what you do. So become the security guard over your mind and refuse to allow it the freedom any longer of poisoning your day with negativity.

Send your Love to Somebody

Our most precious gift in life and one of the best ways to feel joy and fulfillment are found in the moments and motivations when we are choosing to give to others. Invest a minute or two by saying I love you to those special people in your life. Or simply a message to a friend just saying ‘thinking of you.’

Take some me time

Take 10 minutes each evening to clear the clutter and refresh your mind and body. We all need to relax and this really is something that needs to be made a priority.

Today is among the greatest gifts we have ever been given. Let’s use it wisely and refuse to waste a single one.

“A new day: Be open enough to see opportunities. Be wise enough to be grateful. Be courageous enough to be happy.” Steve Maraboli

Good article again Larry. I already do most of these, but it’s nice to be reminded of other things I need to be doing. What do you think about including personal grooming in your routine? I find that it helps with my confidence and gives me some time alone in my head. Though, I don’t have the most positive thoughts sometimes, so that isn’t always good :p
