Take Up One Idea – 90-90-1 Rule

Many of you will have noticed that I’ve disappeared from the blogging world for quite some time. Part of the reason has been my struggles with health. The other my determination to take up one idea and focus on it till completed and let no distractions stop me.

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life—think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.” Swami Vivekananda

How would you feel about your accomplishments if you were told you only had a few hours to live? Are there lots of things you feel proud about? Will you leave this world thinking ‘what a fantastic ride or would it be one of regret for the things you never finished?’

Talking about your death isn’t being gloomy, it’s about motivating yourself to make the most of the time you have left. My period of poor health and struggles got me to think about what I really wanted to do. What I really needed to finish before it was too late.

When you’re feeling low, down in the dumps, it is common for your mind to be full of all the negative things happening in your life. We all go through these periods where we feel lost and unsure of who we are, where we’re supposed to be, and what we’re supposed to be doing. This is how I felt throughout my time of ill health. You need something to lift you up and give you the motivation to get going.

Do you feel as though you’ve lost your way?

Perhaps it seems as if you’re going in circles and don’t know what to do. Maybe you’re just tired of the same old grind, or know you were meant for more than this.

Maybe there’s one thing you’ve always wanted to do but never even got started.

For me it was to write a book.

What if the key to moving forward in your life is as simple as understanding that you’re lost, and need merely to stop and ask for directions?

But who is there for you to ask these directions from?

The only person who can discover your purpose and direction is you.

At the moment a lack of goals can mean your life feels a bit aimless.

When was the last time you allowed yourself to dream big and imagine what your future could be like if perfect in every way.

Getting your inspiration from a distant vision you hold in your mind visualising it frequently and living your life moving in the direction of everything you see.

I saw myself creating something that could help others change their lives achieving amazing things. It would be built around the book I wanted to write.

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. Anatole France

It was time for me to focus much of my attention on this one thing, writing my book, if I was to ever get it completed.

People never want to do one thing. We want to do all the things. Our desires are countless each pushing us in different directions. The problem is that trying to do too many things often stops us from completing any.

Putting your all into a single direction is the quickest way to ensure success.

If you absolutely had to do one thing that could improve your life and the lives of everybody you cared about what would it be?

This one thing would require you to push in one direction.

Robin Sharma talks about “90-90-1 Rule.”

‘For the next 90 days, devote the first 90 minutes of your work day to the one best opportunity in your life. Nothing else. Zero distractions. Just get that project done. Period.’ Robin Sharma

Employing the 90-90-1 Rule means you at long last are focusing on time on the one idea that matters. Doing this has got my book written at long last.

So what is the one thing you need to be focused on? Make sure you take up one idea, and get it done!

  2. Very nice Larry. I watch Robin Sharma video on youtube with some regularity. He’s a highly motivating individual. Getting focused and clear on your goals is key in life. Tuning out the distractions is a massive advantage to moving forward with those goals. Log out of google and facebook, turn off the cell phone ringer and get dialed in on your dreams. I’ve incorporated brain.fm into my focus routine and find it helpful. That’s not intended as a plug but I know some great minds using it now. Please keep up the good work!
