Living Up To Your Potential

Are the things you’re doing every day ensuring that you’re living up to your potential? Someone asked me the other day why was I still so committed to helping others, to keep writing and to get back on stage as a speaker. They thought that with the way my health has been I should just accept life for how it is now and forego any dreams that I may still have. My answer was that I’ll give up on my dreams, making my mark in the world when I’m placed in a box and buried back into the earth.

I believe everyone of us deserves to fulfil our potential.

Life can be hard at times and we have to struggle through. But no matter what happens we should always hold on to the belief that we can achieve our dreams and go on to fulfil our potential. Are you finding life tough, nothing seems to work out for you?

I would like to ask you a question, “who do you choose to be – a person living up to your full potential, or a person who ends up with not much more but a life of excuses?” You really should give yourself a little time to think about that. Are you going to settle for what life throws at you, normally difficulties, or are you going to strive to keep battling, living up to your potential?

I know we are living in really challenging times. Economic insecurity is widespread in most countries of the world. Some of you are challenged with genuinely difficult issues that life has handed you and may well be struggling with how you can resolve them. You feel that your potential has been cut short by circumstances out of your control. Maybe a little voice in your head tells you it will be pointless now to try and fulfil your potential, it isn’t meant to be.

If you are failing to meet bills every week, and you have a family to support or other responsibilities, it can be difficult to see your way out of it to unlock that missing key and find success in the things you were born to do. I know how frustrating it can be. But I also know anything’s possible as long as you never give up hope or stop believing in yourself.

When things around you seem so bad, when everything looks like it’s all doom and gloom never forget within you there is the potential to do great things. I want you to know that you were intended for more than just an average life. I don’t want you to ever forget it. You are absolutely full of unfulfilled potential. You just need to uncover all that is locked up inside you, and you can.

I keep talking about potential, but what do I mean by this?

Potential is defined as, “Latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness,” and “Having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.”

You get what you settle for in life. I believe we are all capable of living the life of our dreams. We just have to make the decision to step out from mediocrity.

I wouldn’t like to think for a second what I may be doing now if I had allowed myself to give up persuing my dreams after my nightmare period. Settling for failure, and just giving up can’t be the way you want the rest of your life to be.

One of the greatest heartbreaks of our time is that so many people live so far below their potential. Today I want to you to think fully about how you can start to achieve your full potential. Within you lies all the answers. If I can teach you anything, that is the message I want you to receive. I can advise, I can give you information, but within you lay all the answers you need.

The challenge lies in the question “Are the things you’re doing going to lead you to achieve your full potential?” If you were to make no changes would you be contented with who you are and what you have become five years from now? Or currently are you falling short and doing many of the wrong things?

Only you can make the changes!

One of my favourite quotes is:

“If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always got.” W. L. Bateman

So until you start to do things differently, don’t expect different results. If you want things to change in your life, you are going to have to make changes.

Unlock your potential!

So are you living up to your potential? Are you willing to push yourself to make it a reality?
