Your Journey Through Life

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Ralph Waldo Emerson

It was my daughter’s birthday on Monday With the fact that she has a busy schedule taking my baby grand daughter to lots of parties I have bought her a TOMTOM as her birthday present to ensure she never gets lost. All she has to do is put in her destination and it will first work out the best route and then it will escort her on the journey delivering them both safely to where they want to go.

Could you imagine having a TOMTOM for your own life. A self discovery tool to help you on your journey through life

I am sure everyone reading this article would agree that at times it is difficult to navigate our way through life. Sometimes we just don’t know what to do or which way to go. It’s so easy to get lost and be scared to take a wrong step.

I love the Fisherman Story. The Fisherman’s Story:

Once a fisherman was sitting near the seashore, under a tree enjoying the sunshine. A rich man passing by approached him and asked why he was sitting under a tree relaxing and not working. To this the poor fisherman replied that he had caught enough fishes for the day.

Hearing this the rich man got angry and said: Why don’t you catch more fishes instead of wasting your time?

Fisherman asked: What would I do by catching more fishes?

Rich Man: You could catch more fishes, sell them and earn more money and buy a bigger boat.

Fisherman: What would I do then?

Rich Man: You could go fishing in deep waters, catch even more fishes and earn even more money.

Fisherman: What would I do then?

Rich Man: You could buy many boats, employ many people to work for you and earn even more money.

Fisherman: What would I do then?

Rich Man: You could become a rich businessman like me.

Fisherman: What would I do then?

Rich Man: You could then enjoy your life peacefully.

Fisherman: What do you think I’m doing right now?

The point is that you don’t need to wait for tomorrow to enjoy your life. You don’t even need to be rich or powerful to enjoy life in the way best for you. You can choose to live peacefully any time you want to. You have to decide your own journey, but don’t pick a journey that may be long and hard where the end result you require could be yours much easier another way.

Life is a journey that offers so many challenges. It will bring many good moments but also bad. We will suffer hardships and heartaches but they will be countered by joys and celebrations. The road may not always be smooth; but neither will it be boring. In order to succeed on our journey, we must overcome all the obstacles that we come across.

It is how we react to the things we are faced with that will determine how our life will map out. We must learn from our experiences and keep on growing. My advice is to follow your heart, and never have regrets. Don’t hold anything back.

I may be a goal orientated person, this is something I won’t deny. I have my big dreams, hold my visions that have seen me carry my life forward throughout the years. But there is something I would want to tell both my daughter and grand daughter. Even though every day I take action in the hope to achieve my great prize when I reach my destination, life is more about the journey than destination, it is the experiences we have on the path that we need to enjoy.

I have lived a busy life for longer than I care to remember. I’ve worked 60 hour weeks, juggled various responsibilities burning the midnight oil on frequent occasions, and have travelled extensively on business necessitating me staying away from home many nights.

I have enjoyed my time, but I don’t want my daughter to miss out on some of the things I had to. I want her to be able to see every school play, attend those coffee and cake mornings at school, basically see every second of her beautiful daughters development. That’s not to say she can’t carry on and finish her university degree nor start on a career. She just needs to create the right balance and make sure her journey takes in everything she can, making frequent stops to smell the roses.

My one regret is it took me too long to learn the importance of slowing down and enjoy the journey. That’s the thing I’d do differently. So make sure you all put that in your TOMTOM.

Life has so much to offer when you allow yourself to enjoy what the journey through life has to offer.
