Take Responsibility for Your Life and Work

By taking responsibility for your life and work you will be taking responsibility for your own success and will see things lifting off in a big way. Believe me because maybe this one change made all the difference to my life. Once I realised that I held within my own grasp the responsibility for my own life and for what I achieved, and then I took action and accepted full 100% responsibility, things began to change, slowly at first, and then quicker and quicker.

So are you a victim? Is there always someone or something to blame for you not yet succeeding in life. Is everything always someone else’s fault, never yours. Maybe you have allowed yourself to be a victim of circumstances, a person who refuses to take responsibility for the situation they are in. Someone or something else is always to blame. Is this you?

I believe when you accept that you are a victim you have made a mindset choice to be such, yet I do assure you, you’re free to take whatever path you like. When you think of yourself as a victim, you’re giving up the power that you have over your own destiny.

You are letting life just happen to you instead of taking control. You drift through life reacting to the actions of others instead of taking steps on your own behalf. You allow yourself to be at the mercy of circumstances.

Well let me tell you, it’s time for you to take personal responsibility and accountability in all aspects of your life, but particularly in terms of creating our own success. What do I mean by that, simple, make the decision to step up and answer for your results.

“It is a painful thing to look at your own trouble and know that you yourself and no one else has made it.” Sophocles

You have to take responsibility for your own life and what happens along the way. The most important aspect of taking responsibility for your life is to acknowledge that your life is your responsibility. No one can live your life for you. You are in charge. No matter how hard you try to blame others for the events of your life, each event is the result of choices you made and you are making now.

You are totally responsible for your life. This is the principle you must embrace if you plan for happiness and success in life and work. Take responsibility for what is happening in your work and in your life. By taking responsibility you will empower yourself.

“A sign of wisdom and maturity is when you come to terms with the realization that your decisions cause your rewards and consequences. You are responsible for your life, and your ultimate success depends on the choices you make.” Denis Waitley

Success in every area of your life, your health (good or bad), the measure of your relationships, your accomplishments, your career or business growth, and basically every outcome of your life, is a direct result of how much responsibility you have taken for your life. Yes you are the reason for the results you have achieved.

It’s so easy, or maybe convenient to blame your spouse, your boss, your parents, society, the economy, your lack of resources, or heck enough of you blame the government for your failures, but you are really the one responsible for your life and the outcomes you have got so far.

You may say that you have no control over the events of your life, but the one variable that you do have complete control over, is your response to those events.

The bottom-line is that you are the one who has created your outcomes. If you’re not satisfied with how your life has turned out to this point, then take a look at your past and realize that all your thoughts, words, and actions have resulted in your current situation. You may not be responsible for the events that happened in your life, or the environment in which you’ve been placed, but realize this one powerful point – you are responsible for how you react. Move on if necessary, look forward not back, take responsibility for the rest of your life and the journey that you now decide to set on.

So from now on take responsibility for everything that you do and for what happens to you.

  • Accept that you’re responsible for your choices, your feelings, and your thoughts.
  • Stop attributing your circumstances, past events, and other people for whatever personal problems you have.
  • Quit feeling sorry for yourself.
  • Start taking care of your physical and mental health.
  • Adopt positive self-talk to support yourself.
  • Be honest with yourself
  • Accept responsibility for your responses to the people, actions, and events in your life
  • Be open to change, new ideas or concepts
  • Let go of fear and irrational beliefs
  • Release anger, blame, mistrust, and insecurity.
  • Be brave, take some risks.

In order to live free and happy, you have to take responsibility for your own life. Taking responsibility means that you acknowledge that you have your life because you have chosen to live it the way it is. Nobody can live your life for you.

I know life can throw us crap in big quantities. Some of the events we have had to face are just dreadful. But how long are we going to let them hold us back. These past events are being given the strength to control your life. You may be talking 30 years ago, but you hold on to the memories like they were yesterday. Well come on, you know it makes sense, say F*C* IT, I’m taking responsibility now for my life, and I’m moving on.

Are you feeling stuck in any areas of your life? What do you wish you could change? What do you need to do to take responsibility and set in forth those changes to bring about the results you so desire? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

  1. Being responsible for your choices are not the only thing one needs to do…they also need to be accountable for their actions, regardless positive or negative, own up to it. I had a very wise instructor in nursing school who once gave us this equation:
    Responsible + Accountable = Successful!

Wise words sir! Although I must admit sometimes life. Stressors overload me.
